# XP

Experience points, or XP, are awarded to creatures who win in battles.

No XP is awarded to creatures who lose in battles.

XP is not tradable.

As you send your creatures into battle, their XP bar fills up and when it is full, you can upgrade them to the next [size](https://arrivant.gitbook.io/project-eluune/player-journey/prelude-live/prelude-limited-event/prelude-creatures/size) within its domain. You start with creatures of size 2 and you can upgrade them to size 4, 8, and higher, up to size 50.

When you upgrade, you unlock a brand new creature and the XP bar restarts at 0. Since the creature will not evolve until you give the command, excess XP is retained for the next upgrade.
